New standards for fruit and vegetable transport by QS with effect from 2013

With effect from 1 January 2013 the German company QS Qualität und Sicherheit GmbH will introduce a standard for the logistics of fresh fruit and vegetables. According to this standard all transport within the fruit and vegetable system are only to be undertaken by certified forwarding-agents. There is a transition period of two years. Consequently from 2015 one has to comply with the standards.

The background for the new standard in the area of logistic services is a decision of the German advisory committee fruit, vegetables and potatoes dated 14 July 2011 as a reaction to the EHEC-crisis, which made the great importance of complete control of the entire supply chain clear.
