Ecuador: Banana shipments fall due to the weather

Banana exports fell 7.43% from $148 million to $137 million year on year.

Manuel Romero, executive director of Agroban, said that the cold is affecting the growth of the fruit. In addition, there are performance problems in plantations after the attack of the Black Sigatoka fungus.

Eduardo Ledesma, president of the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE), said that so far this year 188 million boxes of fruit, which represents 24 million less than in 2011, have been sent abroad.
