Bolivia: Producers notice citrus shortage due to drought

Bolivian producers of citrus in the Santa Cruz region warn that next year’s crop me be in peril because of severe drought. They have already asked local government for help.

Chairman of the Department of Fresh Produce, Noé Morón, confirmed the predicament. In Yapacaní, Buena Vista, Santa Fe and Bella Vista the crops are in danger of dehydrating. Morón called for government assistance in the matter, in particular for the smaller farms. He further insists that President Evo Morales keeps promises made during presidential campaigns, and that state backing is forthcoming.

“If we do nothing, the 2013 crop will be lost, and not just the sector, but the entire country will suffer the consequences,” says Morón.
