Spain: 40 million Euro in compensation for banana producers

The General Secretary for Agriculture and Food, Isabel García Tejerina, has informed the Association of European Banana Producers (APEB) about the approval by the Special Agricultural Committee of the proposal from the European Commission to compensate EU banana producers with 40 million Euro, for the damages being caused by multilateral and bilateral agreements signed between the European Union and Latin American countries.

However, the APEB stressed that "for the final approval of this proposal, there are still two important steps: a trialogue meeting and finally a meeting of the EU Council of Ministers"

Given this achievement, the president of the banana producers association expressed yesterday his gratitude to the minister, Miguel Arias Cañete and his team.
