GM foods debate still pending in Ecuador

Manuel Chiriboga, agricultural researcher, reveals that Ecuador has turned down opportunities to investigate the banana genome.

The Government believes that it was a mistake for the 2008 Constitution to declare the country free of GM foods. Do GM-free countries exist?

There are countries in Europe which have limited the entrance of genetically-modified seeds or have forbidden their use in agriculture. In Latin America, I believe only Peru and Ecuador are doing that. Other countries had similar policies for a long time, like Brazil, but they ended up accepting their use.
