Spain: Fruits and vegetable exports in July keep growing

Spanish exports of fruits and vegetables in July stood at 738,665 tons and 572.5 million Euro. This represents a sharp increase of 29% in volume and 40% in value compared with the same month of 2011, marked by the E coli crisis. In relation to 2010, exports increased by 17% in volume and 7% in value.

By sectors, in July of this year, the Spanish export of vegetables stood at 148,329 tons. The onion, tomato and pepper were the main exported products. Onion shipments totaled 27,672 tons (+13), while tomatoes had 25,115 tons (+67%), and peppers amounted to 23,924 tons (+54%).

Fruit exports stood at 590,336 tons. The watermelon, melon and nectarine were the most exported products. Watermelon exports stood at 137,335 tons (+54%), melon totaled 100,183 tons (+9%) and the nectarine amounted to 99,498 tons (+17%).

In between January to July of 2012, Spanish exports of fruit and vegetables stood at 6.7 million tons and 3,776 million Euro, representing an increase of 7% in volume and 5% in value compared to 2011.

By sectors, vegetable exports in the first seven months of 2012 amounted to 2.7 million tons (+4%) with a value of 2,477 million Euro (+7.5%). Fruit exports reached 3.9 million tons (+9%) worth 1,857 million Euro (+7%), according to the latest date up to July by the Department of Customs and Special Taxes.

FEPEX points out the general good behavior of the products during July of this year, both in fruit and vegetables, compared to 2011 and 2010.
