Grape breeder and marketer adds three grape marketer licensees
Sun World Innovations, the fruit breeding, technology and licensing business unit within Sun World International LLC, has appointed three additional grape marketer licensees: T&G Global (Peru), LCS Exports (South Africa) and FruitMaster (Australia) – to distribute the company’s proprietary grapes.
The three new appointments further expand Sun World’s global grape presence to include 41 licensed grape marketers and assure retailers of continued access to a full-line of prominent Sun World varietal brands such as MIDNIGHT BEAUTY®, SCARLOTTA SEEDLESS®, SABLE SEEDLESS®, ADORA SEEDLESS® and AUTUMNCRISP®, Vice President of Licensing Garth Swinburn said.
T&G is New Zealand’s largest fruit and vegetable exporter and has been active in Peru since 2003 through its trading business, previously known as Delica. The company recently underwent a rebrand from Turners and Growers to T&G Global, and has developed an ambitious new strategy centered on becoming a vertically-integrated grower, marketer and exporter in key categories including table grapes. This led to the 2014 acquisition of 340 hectares in the northern Peruvian region of Piura, a project headed up by Nick Fitzpatrick, GM Americas and Table Grape Category for the Group.
LCS Exports is a newly-formed company comprising Core Fruit and Le Roux Fruit Exporters – two leading South African grower-exporters whose producer-owners are longstanding licensed producers of Sun World varieties. Core Fruit, one of the country’s largest fruit exporters, has a well-diversified customer base in 63 countries with a particularly strong footprint in the Far East and Africa. The Le Roux Group is a vertically-integrated grower-exporter that markets grapes and stonefruit produced on more than one dozen of its own farms, including 652 hectares of table grapes throughout the Western Cape, to clients in Europe, the UK, Canada, Far and Middle East, Russia, Southeast Asia and Africa. The new joint venture will be managed under the guidance of Core Grape Business Head, Jean Smith, and Le Roux Marketing General Manager, Gerhard Robbertze.
FruitMaster, managed by the company’s Director and CEO Joe Lanteri, is the result of a recent merger between existing Sun World marketer licensee, Perfection Fresh Australia, and existing Sun World producer licensee, FruitMaster. The newly integrated business combines extensive agribusiness and fruit marketing expertise, strategically-located cold storage and packing facilities, an important network of licensed growers, along with significant owned farms throughout Australia’s Sunraysia region.
Sun World Innovation's fruit licensing program involves more than 1,400 producers and marketing companies in most of the world's major fruit-growing regions. Its variety development work focuses on a full range of fresh grapes with extraordinary characteristics, such as enhanced flavor, distinctive taste, larger berries and clusters, earlier and later ripening times, availability, and increased productivity. The business unit also develops new plums, peaches, apricots and nectarines, grown and marketed under license worldwide.
