As of 1 November, Groothandel Claessens has acquired catering supplier DaVé. Due to their age, the owners of the Leuven-based company were looking for proper succession, which they have now found in Groothandel Claessens. "It is a great way for us to strengthen our position and continue to grow strategically," says Tom Claessens of the Antwerp-based hospitality wholesaler.
"Our activities were very similar," Tom explains about the acquisition. "So when we were given the opportunity to take over their customer base, we didn't hesitate for long. It is an interesting opportunity for us to expand our clientele. We will give them a warm welcome and continue to serve them personally and with the same care they were used to. We look forward to growing further together in the Leuven region."
When asked whether this acquisition could be a step toward expanding into other sales channels, he is clear. "No, I don't think so. This opportunity came our way, and it fitted perfectly within our business. However, we specialise as a catering supplier and that will not change anytime soon. 'Shoemaker, stick to your last,' as the saying goes."
Something else will change with the takeover, however. "From mid-2026, we will be moving from our current location in Zoutleeuw, where we have been for more than three years, to new premises in Tienen. These are currently being renovated, but we expect to move in during the course of next year. The new site offers more room for growth, and from there we can also supply our new clientele in Leuven even more efficiently."
As a result, Groothandel Claessens will soon have branches in Antwerp, Bruges, and Tienen. "This way, we are strategically represented throughout Flanders."
