As Thanksgiving approaches, demand for New York–grown Brussels sprouts is on the rise, a development that's driven by strong quality, ideal growing conditions, and the advantage of local proximity to key retail markets.
"Our Brussels sprouts are grown in Holley, New York, where the climate is perfect for producing a vibrant, uniform, and flavorful crop," says Tyler Hiriak of PennRose Farms. "The cooler temperatures and relatively dry weather this season have been ideal, giving us consistent size and color with a clean, crisp appearance."

Fresh from field to store in 24 hours
Situated in Western New York, PennRose Farms' Holley, NY location is strategically positioned to reach most major retailers and distribution centers within 24 hours of harvest. "From the time our sprouts are picked, packed, and shipped, they can be on store shelves by the next day," Hiriak says. "That freshness and speed are a huge advantage—especially heading into the busy holiday season when retailers want premium quality and dependable supply."

Holiday demand builds
Meanwhile, all eyes are now on one of the biggest demand periods of the year—Thanksgiving and Christmas. "Demand was really strong the last two weeks, and as we move closer to the holidays, we're seeing continued interest," says Hiriak. "As price points climb on Western supply, retailers are looking to secure dependable East Coast product."
That growing momentum is translating to increased activity for PennRose's program. "We're seeing more engagement from customers than in past seasons," Hiriak adds. "Retailers are asking for larger volumes and planning ahead because they know our East Coast supply can deliver the quality and turnaround they need right now."

Looking ahead
The company is also testing controlled atmosphere (CA) storage options for Brussels sprouts—an initiative showing strong promise for extending the season and ensuring consistent availability. "We're always thinking about how to strengthen our East Coast supply position and support our customers longer into the season," says Hiriak. "As one of the leading Brussels sprout growers on the domestic East Coast, we continue to stand out for quality, proximity, and reliability in delivering fresher product faster when retailers need it most."
