Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing Pakistan's agricultural exports, with a particular focus on citrus fruits, especially Kinnow mandarins.
Speaking at the Agri Expo Sargodha, where the Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company (PHDEC) participated, the minister said the priority is to strengthen the entire value chain from production to export by promoting modern agricultural practices, ensuring compliance with international standards, and improving logistics infrastructure.
During the event, PHDEC organised a technical workshop attended by experts from the Citrus Research Institute (CRI), Sargodha. The session focused on pest and disease control, harvest timing, and post-harvest handling practices aimed at improving fruit quality and reducing losses during export.
The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) presented its temperature-controlled reefer transport system and logistics strategy for the upcoming citrus export season, which begins in December. The presentation outlined plans to maintain consistent cold-chain management for Kinnow mandarins during transit to overseas markets.
Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the need for stronger coordination between growers, exporters, and public institutions to develop a competitive and sustainable horticulture export framework. He said, "The priority is to strengthen the entire value chain from farm to foreign markets by promoting modern agricultural practices, ensuring compliance with international standards, and improving logistics infrastructure."
PHDEC reiterated its commitment to working under the Ministry of Commerce to reinforce Pakistan's citrus value chain and ensure that fruit exports meet international quality and phytosanitary standards.
