The domestic table potato harvest has been repeatedly interrupted in recent days due to weather conditions. This has somewhat alleviated the shortage of storage crates. In the first regions, harvesting is now nearing completion; in the later growing areas, however, the harvest is likely to continue until the end of October. The warehouses are already well stocked. Overall, a good average harvest is expected, although wireworms are likely to reduce the net yield again this year. Demand is currently satisfactory. Promotions in food retail are ensuring good sales, and there are also sales opportunities in exports. Prices remain unchanged from the previous week. In Lower Austria, up to EUR 20/100 kg is still being paid for good-quality onions, with deductions for temporary storage and higher logistics costs still being charged. In Upper Austria, the price level remains stable at EUR 20/100 kg.

Rain interrupts harvest
In northern Austria, the onion harvest had to be interrupted last week after heavy rainfall. Rainfall is also forecast for this week. The wet soil conditions mean that storage conditions for onions are not ideal. The available supply is currently sufficient. On the sales side, domestic business is steady, as is typical for this time of year. There are also still good sales opportunities for exports. Producer prices have fallen slightly. At the beginning of the week, cleaned and sorted onions in crates were mostly selling for between EUR 13 and 16/100 kg, depending on quality.
Storage begins in mid-October
The carrot market in northern Austria remains stable and unchanged from previous weeks. Harvest volumes continue to be well matched to current demand. Storage in cold stores will begin in mid-October. There was no change in producer prices compared to the previous week. At the beginning of the week, carrots in 5 kg bags, ex-ramp, were mostly priced between EUR 45 and 50/100 kg, depending on quality.
