Mumbai airport mango exports up 9%

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, India, facilitated the export of 3,624 metric tons of mangoes during April and May 2025, marking a 9% increase compared to the previous year. The airport remains integral in the logistics of perishable goods, as noted in an official release from CSMIA.

This season, CSMIA supported the exportation of several premium Indian mango varieties, including Alphonso, Chausa, Kesar, Badami, and Neelam. London was identified as the leading export destination, with significant demand also from Toronto and New York.

A CSMIA spokesperson remarked, "At CSMIA, we take immense pride in being the gateway for exporting India's renowned mangoes to the global markets. With cutting-edge infrastructure and an advanced cold-chain system, we help preserve and elevate the global reputation of Indian mangoes by ensuring every fruit reaches its destination in peak freshness. Our commitment is to excellence and to supporting exporters in taking India's finest mango produce to the world."

CSMIA's advanced air cargo facility, including a specialized 2,000-square-metre Agro Excellence Centre, underscores its role in maintaining quality and efficiency. This facility, where processes like acceptance, screening, and palletisation occur, ensures operations are conducted in a controlled climate. The official release highlights the facility's ability to maintain temperatures between 15°C and 25°C, thereby sustaining freshness and preventing spoilage.

Handling processes are geared to minimize heat exposure and ensure appropriate humidity levels, while strategic palletisation optimizes air circulation, thereby enhancing the fruit's shelf life and quality.
