Cambodia exports 260,000 tons of bananas

Cambodia exported 260,000 tons of fresh bananas in 2024, directing 95% to China. This highlights Cambodia's presence in global agriculture.

Cambodia has 21,000 hectares for bananas, with 15,000 hectares in harvest, yielding 25 tons per hectare. Production hit 400,000 tons, with 24 plantations and 36 packing facilities approved for export to China.

At the inauguration of a fresh banana supply chain on June 6, 2025, by the Cambodia Banana Agricultural Chemical Company, H.E. Kong Chanveasna, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, noted the company's investment in local plantations. In 2024, they exported 12 million tons of agricultural products to 95 countries, worth approximately $220 million. Over 800,000 tons went to China, marking Cambodia's influence in the market.

Besides China, Cambodia also exports bananas to Vietnam, South Korea, and Malaysia, which diversifies its market and benefits farmers.

The company managing the banana supply chain supplies local supermarkets and plans larger exports. After exporting 20,000 tons in 2024, they expect to reach 30,000 tons by 2025, reinforcing Cambodia's role in the fresh fruit sector.

Cambodia seeks to be a key fresh banana exporter using favorable agriculture and strong market ties, particularly with China.
