In late April, Brazil hosted a Japanese technical mission to audit the procedures of Brazilian Hass avocado producers. This audit adhered to the export work plan for the Japanese market.
The Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivative Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas), with technician Victor Mendes, supervised the audit across production fields and consolidation units in São Paulo, Brazil's primary avocado hub.
The inspection assessed training records, harvest control, traceability, and storage and transportation conditions. Mendes stated, "The audit did not identify any non-conformities. This proves the ability of our producers to serve markets with high standards, such as Japan. The Japanese auditor highlighted the professionalism of the Brazilian production chain and the seriousness with which the protocols are followed."
Abrafrutas views the Japanese market entry as a strategic move for diversification and enhancing Brazil's reputation as a reliable fresh fruit supplier. Mendes noted, "Despite being a niche market, with demand for more restricted volumes, the difference lies in the added value. It is an opportunity for greater profitability for our exporters."
Successfully passing the audit indicates progress in expanding Brazilian fresh fruit exports and accessing premium markets globally.
