Potato Market Update:

Easter boosts foodservice demand as cold slows UK planting

The Easter break has increased demand for the food service sector over the past 10 days. Recent colder weather should also further increase domestic consumption. Wet weather conditions have slowed planting progress over the last 5 days. Again, there is a lot of variation in planting completion rates across the country.

In Scotland, it was reported that good planting progress was made last week, but some growers are in no hurry to start. Progress was about 30-40% complete last week. In the U.K., growth rates are slow due to cold weather conditions and nighttime frost.
