According to the Association of Greek Fruit, Vegetable and Juice Exporters, Incofruit Hellas, Greece's kiwifruit exports increased by 14.2% between September 1, 2024, and April 17, 2025. This period saw exports reach 208,679 tons, surpassing the 200,000-ton milestone for the first time.
While orange and mandarin exports remained stable, the market observed notable imports of Egyptian oranges and mandarins, as well as Romanian oranges. Orange exports rose slightly by 4.6% to 268,834 tons, while mandarin exports surged by 11.9% to 151,621 tons.
Strawberry exports decreased by 3.8%, totaling 51,300 tons between January 1 and April 17, 2025. Meanwhile, apple exports increased sharply by 44.7% over the same period. Greece imported 5,000 tons of apples from Poland, North Macedonia, and Spain.
Tomato exports rose by 32.3% to 22,700 tons, primarily to Bulgaria, Albania, and Romania. Cucumber exports increased by 3% from the previous year. Imports from Spain and Turkey exceeded 1,200 tons.
Trade between Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania has become easier since early 2025 due to their inclusion in the Schengen Area. However, exporters call for enhanced quality controls. "There is a pressing need for thorough and representative quality and health checks, especially in production regions and at exit points," stated Incofruit Hellas representative Giorgos Polychronakis.
