The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic has drafted the Organic Production Development Program for 2025–2029 and has opened it for public discussion.
The initiative aims to establish favorable legal, economic, and social conditions for organic farmers through state support.
Kyrgyzstan has unique natural and climatic advantages for organic farming, including:
- A clean ecosystem
- Ecologically pure soils and water in mountain regions
- Traditional low-agrochemical farming methods
- Rich biodiversity
- High export potential.
Currently, certified organic farmland in Kyrgyzstan covers 63,000 hectares or 5.25% of total arable land.
Key targets (2025–2029)
- Expand certified organic farmland to 200,000 hectares (3x growth)
- Increase organic farming's share to 25% of total agriculture
- Boost exports, aiming for 25% of organic products to go abroad.
The program includes a pilot project to convert the Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions to 100% organic farming, alongside a public awareness campaign to highlight the benefits of organic production. It also focuses on developing processing and logistics infrastructure, establishing certification laboratories to ensure compliance, and promoting research and innovation in organic agriculture.
The Program's documents, including action plans, budgets, and key performance indicators, are available for public review and discussion.
