Turkey's fresh produce exports hit 3.4 billion dollars in 2024

The Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association, with Ferhat Gürüz as its Board Chairman, disclosed that Turkey's fresh fruit and vegetable exports hit 3.4 billion dollars in 2024. Gürüz highlighted that the association, responsible for the sector's coordination and secretariat duties, contributed 1.54 billion dollars to this figure. He pinpointed the Çukurova Region as a key export driver within the sector for the year.

December witnessed the sector exporting products worth 350.5 million dollars, with the region's exports standing at 198 million dollars. Gürüz noted tangerine, tomato, and lemon as the year's most sought-after products, with the Russian, German, and Romanian markets recording the highest demand.

Gürüz stated, "We make effective promotions at international fairs that guide the development of the sector." He elaborated on Turkey's proactive engagement in international fairs across Russia, Spain, Germany, Hong Kong, and Canada, aiming to foster market expansion, increase international visibility, and showcase the country's sustainable and high-quality produce.

The association has focused on promotional campaigns within the Russian, German, and Polish markets through the Turquality program, emphasizing Turkish produce's quality, natural and healthy attributes, and competitive pricing.

Looking forward, Gürüz revealed a target of 6.2 billion dollars in fresh fruit and vegetable exports by 2028. He underscored the necessity of addressing macro needs including financing, customs capacity, and technology to realize this goal.

Gürüz also shared insights into the sector's export distribution, noting significant exports to Russia, Germany, and Romania, and highlighted the year's notable growth in exports of potatoes, plums, peaches, oranges, apricots, pomegranates, and figs to markets like Iraq, Georgia, and Saudi Arabia.
