Ecuador is increasing its presence in international markets as a supplier of non-traditional fruits, most recently by exporting blueberries to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Nobis Fruit Company, the company behind this initiative, has projected that its monthly income from blueberry exports will reach $60,000 by next year.
Luis Ponce, general manager of Nobis Fruit Company, expressed optimism about the new market opportunities. "We are excited about the new opportunities that are coming along. Our strategy is focused on taking quality products to different corners of the world, and Dubai is an important step in that direction," he said.
Nobis Fruit's participation in PRO ECUADOR's Macro Business Roundtable, an event designed to forge new business connections and expand the international reach of participating companies, facilitated the opening of this new market. In addition, Nobis Fruit plans to expand its presence in high-consumption markets such as the United States, Canada, and China over the next five years, through process automation and increasing its cultivation area.
Dubai, a key logistics hub, offers a strategic position to distribute produce to the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. This market, which relies heavily on imports to meet its demand for produce, represents a significant opportunity to introduce Ecuadorian fruit to the region.
