Anticipated vegetable shortages in Israel due to the ongoing war

The Ministry of Agriculture in Israel has forecasted a shortage of certain vegetables in the coming months due to the ongoing war, according to the Ministry's projections.

Supplies of tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, onions, and strawberries are expected to be affected. The tomato harvest is estimated to decrease by more than 30%, particularly near the Gaza Strip. A 25% deficit in the winter lettuce harvest is anticipated, while cabbage and onion shortages are projected at around 20%, attributed to a labour shortage and insufficient planting material.

Despite a limited cucumber deficit, experts are confident it will be overcome. Meanwhile, deliveries of sweet peppers, potatoes, carrots, and sweet potatoes are unaffected, thanks to the war's minimal impact on their primary cultivation regions. Compensating for shortages with imports is planned in the event of insufficient domestic production.
