Onion smuggler arrested in Batangas province late last week

Last Friday, a large-scale onion smuggler was arrested in Batangas. He was responsible for the illegal trade of 30 containers of onions. According to the DA, it was on Wednesday when the alleged smuggler, Jayson de Roxas Taculog, was taken into custody by the police for breaking Republic Act (RA) 10845, which defines large-scale agricultural smuggling as economic sabotage.

The defendant was detained for using shipping documents or import permits that were forged, fictitious, or fraudulent. He was accused of misclassifying, undervaluing, or making false declarations on import entry and revenue declaration forms filed to the Bureau of Customs in addition to avoiding paying taxes and duties.
