Hong Kong checks finds banned Japanese vegetables

Routine checks in Hong Kong have found some banned Japanese vegetables on an importer. A consignment of vegetables has been sealed, with a packet of eggplant without a radiation certificate was found.

The packet of eggplant comes from Japan's Guma prefecture, one of four from which radiation certificates for exports are required.

The Hong Kong based Centre For Food Safety is investigating the importer for the alleged breach after bans following the Fukushima nuclear disaster. A new order came into place after Japan recently released water from the plant.
