A Dominican citizen is fined for carrying mangoes into the US

Juan Castillo was fined $300 upon arrival at John F. Kennedy Airport, New York after a customs agent found several mangoes in his luggage.

A video published by Spectrum Noticias NY shows how the agriculture specialist checks the suitcases with which Castillo traveled and how she takes out a plastic bag from one of the suitcases with several mangoes that had been brought from Santo Domingo to the United States.

“You told me you didn't have anything. Do you have any more mangoes, sir?” Claudia Alcarraz, the customs inspector, asked.

“We are here as frontline workers to protect US agriculture from insects and diseases that can cause harm to the economy,” Alcarraz stated.
