The avocado sector in the Spanish province of Huelva, which is home to about 1,800 hectares of crops, has suffered a strong setback due to the drought. Local media reports that some producers have already decided to abandon their farms after a massive 70% drop in the production.
The high temperatures and the lack of water have led to a loss of leaf mass and a scarce fruit production. According to the media report, "given this panorama, some growers have stopped new planting projects and those who were already cultivating have abandoned part of their farms."
The farms most affected by this situation are those furthest from the sea.
