Hamburg Süd Latin America market update – May 2023

'Generally stable waiting times for ports in North and Latin America anticipated'

Hamburg Süd has shared its Market Update on the Latin American market.

Major trade lane market overview

Port status
We anticipate generally stable waiting times for ports in North and Latin America. However, there are a few exceptions: we predict waiting times of 24 hours at Paranagua and Itapoa due to lineup congestions and a waiting time of 2 days at Oakland. For all other terminals, we don't expect the waiting time to exceed 1 day.

In Australia and New Zealand, waiting times vary depending on the port and vessel arrival time, with most ports having waiting times of 0-1 day.

The waiting times at the Asian ports vary, with Busan new terminal having an average waiting time of 2.5 days, Ningbo Beilun Container Terminal Phase 4 having an average waiting time of 1.5 days, and the other ports having an average waiting time of 0.5-1 day or less.

In South Europe, it is noted that Italian terminals will be affected by a 24-hour General UBS strike on May 26th, and the impact of the strike is yet to be monitored.

In North Europe currently, there are no major disruptions or significant waiting times reported for ports.
