Status of Almeria's greenhouse crops at the beginning of May

According to the latest State of the Crops report of the Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service of the Junta de Andalucía, during the first week of May, greenhouse producers in the Poniente Almeriense were finalizing the last cuts in single-crop pepper plantations and other plantations were already being uprooted.

The new tomato plantations are in full harvest until the end of the production cycle at the end of May/early June.

Most of the aubergine greenhouse productions were in full harvest. The most depleted crops had been uprooted, and the most recent ones had already started production.

The cucumber spring harvest is in full production, and producers will keep this crop if prices improve, otherwise, many farmers will uproot their plantations.

Most of the zucchini plantations were in full harvest.

The Cantaloupe, Galia, and Amarillo melon varieties were being harvested as the temperature that week had favored the ripening of the fruits.

Producers continued harvesting the earliest watermelon varieties. Later varieties were maturing. The seedbeds are getting the plantings ready with lots of peppers mainly.

In the greenhouses of Níjar, the long-cycle tomato plantations were practically finished, while the spring ones were in full production. The tomatoes being harvested had good quality, and their price was acceptable for farmers.

Producers continued harvesting the last pepper plantations that were left. Aubergines were ready to be harvested.

The courgettes were in full harvest, with a lot of good quality fruits, but prices weren't good.

Producers discovered some cucumbers had curdling issues as a result of the increase in temperatures.

Watermelon greenhouses continued in full harvest with very good production and quality, with a tendency to lower prices. Melon greenhouses were in full harvest.
