Küsten Bete Ltd in Elpersbüttel has been preparing beets for domestic food retailers for several months. At a site in the heart of the Dithmarschen vegetable-growing region, the regional vegetables are washed, sorted, peeled, weighed and labeled with MHD labels. The beet is then cooked in the packaging and made available to retailers as ready-to-cook vegetables.

with our partner Küsten Gemüse, we have been serving food retailers with ready-to-cook beet since December 2022 and have built a completely new hall with state-of-the-art plant technology for this purpose," says Florian Jochims (picture right), managing director of Küsten Bete, on the emergence of the product mainstay. "The Optimus thermoforming packaging line from Nordvac is particularly well suited to our operation, which has been demonstrated in the first few months of production."
The advantage of packaging with the thermoforming line, he says, is the efficient packaging capacity with up to 13 cycles, which allows a high demand to be met economically. The thermoforming process also facilitates storage, transport, and retail presentation. With the help of the extensive packaging technology offered by Nordvac, the quality, taste and nutritional content of the vegetables are preserved.
"With the 500 gram packs (four to six pieces), we have found an interesting product that meets the spirit of the times," Jochims continues. "Accordingly, we are keen to further expand production in the coming season so that we can offer the product twelve months a year in the future," the Dithmarsch-based vegetable trader concludes.
