The National Institute of Statistics (INS) has released data on the annual inflation rate and how it has affected food, non-food and service prices. According to them, the annual inflation rate rose to 15.5% in February 2023, from 15.1% in January 2023, as food goods it rose by 22.35%, non-food goods by 12.73% and services by 10.38%.
Regarding agro-food products, vegetables are the ones with the sharpest price increase in one month, followed by fresh fruit, potatoes and fish.
According to INS – quoted by Agerpres, consumer prices in February 2023, compared to January 2023, increased by 0.98%, on the back of food prices rising by 1.85%, non-food by 0.45% and services by 0.70%.
The average rate of change in consumer prices in the last 12 months (March 2022 - February 2023) compared to the previous 12 months (March 2021 - February 2022) is 14.9%.
In February compared to January, the highest price increases were recorded for vegetables and canned vegetables (by 6.35%), fresh fruit (4.88%), potatoes (4.61%), fresh fish (2.78%), cheese (2.26%). Other price increases were for eggs (1.33%), sugar (1.23%), milk (1.01%), poultry (1.2%), milling and bakery products (1.13%) and beer (1.63%).
The food group which saw a 1.83% decrease in prices in February compared to January was edible oil.
