The hapus mango, grown in Konkan is world famous, particularly in the districts of Ratnagiri, Devgad and Raigad. Out of 250,000 tons of products in Konkan, 25,000 tons of fruit and 10,000 tons of mango pulp are exported. 40 percent of Konkan mangoes are exported to Europe and the Gulf countries. As the month of Ramadan begins, the demand for hapus mangoes in the Gulf is expected to increase even further.
In Maharashtra, mangoes are cultivated on 566,000 hectares and the production of mango fruit stands at 331,000 tons. Mangoes are cultivated on 113,000 hectares in Ratnagiri district, 33,475 hectares in Sindhudurg district and 14,500 hectares in Raigad district.
