9,155,211 boxes (8.2 kg) of table grapes exported

Peruvian table grape farm exports record 4,306 containers worldwide

A new export record for a single company in Peru was set with 4 306 containers and 9 155 211 boxes (8.2 kg) of table grapes exported to different markets around the world during the 2022/2023 season. Sociedad Agrícola Rapel SAC, the largest single Peruvian table grape grower and exporter finished the 2022/2023 campaign with these impressive figures despite the recent challenges in the country.

According to Sebastian Rodriguez, marketing manager of Verfrut, the Chilean company that owns Rapel, they are happy to reach this milestone. “Freshness, quality and flavour that reaches millions of people around the world thanks to the tremendous work done by our collaborators. Congratulations to our Rapel Peru team for their tremendous work, they made history!”

Their main markets where this record amount of table grapes was shipped are the USA 45%, Asia 30% (that includes Indonesia, China, Thailand, Russia), Latin America 15%, Europe 10%. “We are happy with the prices, in general it was a good season,” stated Rodriguez.

The Rapel farms are mainly situated in the Piura area in the north of Peru, that was largely unaffected by the widespread riots over the past two month. The company attributes the record volumes to the new generation varieties of table grapes, namely Allison and Sweet Globe, while the bedrock cultivar of the industry Red Globe did not disappoint and helped with the volume increase says Rodriguez.

Verfrut was founded in 1996 by its owner and current president of the company Romano Vercellino who started as a small grower in Central Chile. Today, more than 30 years later, the Verfrut group is made up of five related companies, with more than 4,300 hectares of orchards in production in Chile and more than 2,700 hectares in Peru. This makes the company one of the largest individual fruit growers in Chile and one of the largest grape growers in Peru.
