The Goiás state government started the implementation process of the irrigated fruit growing project, which aims to boost the agricultural production of fruit in municipalities in the northeastern region of the state. The site has an estimated production capacity of 4,200 tons of passion fruit and 6,000 tons of mango per year, which should take effect from the second and third years of planting the crops, respectively.
In this first stage, family farmers in the municipalities of Flores de Goiás, São João da Aliança and Formosa will benefit from 150 irrigation kits. This first stage of the project covers 300 hectares supplied by the dams on the Paranã and Ribeirão Porteira rivers.
