Brazil ended the year 2022 with more than 1 million tons of fruit exported. The sector raised almost US$ 1 billion, 9% less than 2021. The decline in volume was 16%, around 193,000 tons less than in the previous year. The European Union and the United Kingdom were the main destinations for Brazilian fruit last year, with more than 60% of sales coming from these countries. Mangoes, melons, lemons and grapes continue to be the most exported fruits.
Unlike other niches, Brazilian fruits saw an increase in exports during the Covid-19 pandemic, as people began to consume more due to health issues, as fruits have an appeal to improve the immune system. As a result of the increase in consumption, the sector achieved the first billion in exports. The country shipped around 1.2 million tons of fruit to the international market.
In 2022, lemon and avocado exports remained high. Lemon exports saw an increase of 8% in exported fruit and 23% in revenue. It was a year of favorable weather for lemon production in the state of São Paulo, the largest exporter of the fruit in Brazil. This fact, added to the increase in the planted area, was directly reflected in the growth of production and exports.
