Vincent Riddell is the founder of Top QC, an integrated quality control software solution that can be used on mobile, desktop, or iPad. Before launching this service, Vincent gathered a track record in the international fresh produce trade, which included working for the Golden Wing Mau Group in Shenzhen and Levarht in The Netherlands. He then went on to found Riddell Systems, a fruit market intelligence and software solutions company. This combined experience and international outlook on the fruit industry inspired him to bring together the different elements together to create Top QC, a software solution tailored to challenges faced in quality control within the international fruit business.
Top QC’s strongest selling point is that it saves time for quality control inspectors, and streamlines the related information for the management and commercial team, with all relevant data available and stored in a central location.
Vincent explains the workings of Top QC: “The inspection process generally follows a set pattern; a container arrives, it is opened, samples are taken and a visual and or sample inspection are done. The fruit then continues its journey onto the wholesale, retail, or online sales channels. Our software solution can be integrated from the moment the container is packed at the grower, till it is opened by the importer. The QC inspection itself can be done directly on a laptop or mobile phone, naturally the inspection can include photos, captured details like packing, sizing, brands, etc. From this point a QC report is automatically generated and the manager is sent a notification.
“Our solution comes with many advantages. For one, Top QC can can be used across platforms including mobile and desktop. All images which are uploaded are compressed to save space while maintaining image quality. Reports are automatically generated and a link is created for clients to share the report with their partners, naturally the traditional PDF inspection report can also be downloaded too. This all contributes to an improved and practical working situation for the inspector, and also for the management as they can summarize seasons in no time at all,” continues Vincent.

In terms of information, a company might have multiple inspection teams, or stakeholders. The Top QC platform allows all information to be saved and centralized, but at the same time made accessible across teams. Access can also be managed so that some stakeholders have full access, whereas other might be granted limited access.
“We facilitate better decision making, as we make more information available for analysis. Our system automatically creates professional reports that can be shared, and all information is organized and accessible via overviews,” continues Vincent.
For different stakeholders, the program comes with different advantages: “For the inspector, we have created a user-friendly app that streamlines work and saves time during the inspection and afterward. For management, they are given access to a structured database where information can be easily accessed, which supports informed decision making, understanding of seasonal trends and strategic planning.”
Flexibility is a cornerstone of the software, says Vincent: “How we designed the software is to keep it flexible. At its core is has to be simple and practical: it needs to be able to adapt to any environment. Every import market has an inspection process and every market is open to business, but all markets are also slightly different to one other. Regarding pricing structure, it's a yearly subscription fee that is payable annually. We base it on the company's previous years inspections. As such we track, and grow with, the performance of our clients. Partnerships are very important to us, and we genuinely hope to build continued, sustainable and mutually beneficent relationships.”
