Discussing trade dispute resolution services

Just one more month and the world’s largest fresh produce trade show of the year will be held in Berlin, Germany. Companies from all over the world will be present, including The Fruit and Vegetable Dispute Resolution Corporation (DRC) from Canada. “With produce being traded globally, we will be present to highlight our trade dispute resolution services,” says Jaime Bustamante with the DRC. These include education, consultation, mediation, and arbitration. “It is important for the international produce industry to know that there are alternative dispute resolution mechanisms that allow for fast and economical resolution of conflicts,” Bustamante added. In addition to being able to use DRC’s services, a membership also provides others with assurance that a company is following commercial best practices.

South America and Europe
Anyone who grows, buys, sells, brokers, or provides transportation services for produce can become a member of the DRC, a not-for-profit organization. Membership is not limited to companies in Canada or North America. “In fact, we are seeing an increased membership from South America and Europe as companies in these continents see the benefits of membership as part of their financial risk mitigation toolbox,” said Bustamante. “Therefore, during our Berlin presence we will be focusing on those two regions, but are open to meeting with people, companies, and governments from all over the world.”

DRC will be present with a booth as they feel it is the best way to connect with the produce trade. “At the booth, we will highlight our dispute resolution services and explain the benefits of having a membership. We are looking forward to meeting with current as well as potential DRC members as they provide valuable insights into current trends in the industry.” The organization has participated in Fruit Logistica Berlin three times in the past five years, establishing many new networking pathways. In addition, DRC has seen its international membership grow during that time.
