Xtrema Fruit

Spain's National Stone Fruit Forum is just one week away

The third edition of the Xtrema Fruit National Stone Fruit Forum will be held on December 15, at Don Benito, Extremadura. The event will be held in the Feval Auditorium of the municipality and Pedro Casas (Symborg) will open it with a presentation that will address the importance of biofertilization and biostimulation. Antonio Vicente Sanz (Ideagro) will talk about Phytophthora niederhauserii, an emerging pathogen that affects stone fruit trees. Then, international agri-food consultant Paco Borras will analyze the situation of the stone fruit market.

Jose Ramon Tenor, national co-responsible for the agri-food industry in Despacho de Garrigues, will analyze the amendments of the Food Chain Law that will enter into force in January 2023. After this presentation, there will be a round table where the problem of water, exacerbated by drought for the irrigation of fruit trees, will be discussed. Speakers will include Valerio Marcial Rodríguez (Junta de Extremadura), Miguel Ángel Gomez (Afruex), Henar Prieto Losada (Cicytex), and Alvaro Paniagua de la Calle (Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadiana).

Valme Gonzalez (Cicytex) will give a lecture on the use of technology for the efficient management of fertilization in fruit trees and Samuel Lopez (Plantae) on the use of probes and other devices for water saving and crop control. Next, Thomas Chevallier (PSB) and Aurelie Ferrieux (ASF Edition) will talk about the genetic improvement of fruit varieties.

The day will continue with a presentation from Belen Velardo (Cicytex) on biostimulation to improve the quality of stone fruit, and a lecture by Cesar Balguerias (Agrofresh) about post-harvest technologies. Ignasi Iglesias (Agromillora) will talk about the new mechanization proposals for stone fruit trees. Then, Daniel Valero and Maria Serrano, researchers from the Miguel Hernández University, will present the results of their latest research on how to increase the size and quality of cherries with the use of elicitors.

This third edition of the Xtrema Fruit Forum will end with a presentation of the 'Spain in bloom' project developed by Agromarketing Spain, which was selected by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce as one of the country's 35 tourist experiences and which will benefit fruit areas such as the Jerte Valley.
