Two tons of cocaine found in banana shipment bound for Europe

A shipment of bananas that was about to leave for Europe, from the port of Guayaquil in Ecuador was found to contain two tons of cocaine.

Colonel Yuri Narváez, deputy director of the Anti-Drug Investigation Unit (UIAN), said that in the operation, called Resurge 762, they detected that a container that entered the pre-shipment area had its security seals tampered with reports 247newsagency.com

The cargo, which was to be sent to Sweden, was reviewed by a canine trained in narcotics detection. The dog smelled the outside and gave an alert, so the container was opened and the agents of the Ports and Airports Investigation unit discovered 37 packages with 2,218 rectangular-type packages. It was confirmed that there were 2.2 tons of cocaine.
