The export of grapes from India has started, with the focus being on the Asian market for now, says Krish International chairman Himant Chavda: “We’re an exporter of fresh grapes. We export varieties like White Thompson Seedless, White Super Sonaka Seedless, White Sonaka Seedless and Black Sharad Seedless. This year, we see good things both in terms of volumes as well as the quality of the grapes. Right now, we currently only export to Dubai and the Asian market. In these markets, demand is picking up as we’re getting close to the new year. For the European market, the grapes will be of the right quality from January the 10th.”
During cultivation, weather had been challenging in India. Chavda states that the worst should now hopefully be behind them: “As the season has only just started, export volumes are low at the moment, but volumes should be picking up by the end of the month and even more so once we’re ready to export to the European market. The heavy rains in India did have an impact towards the early plot of grapes, which has been cleared by now. So the situation has improved and hopefully the weather will not cause any damages from this point on.”
There is more good news for fresh produce exporters from India, as the prices of logistics have finally come down: “After the logistical situation has been very expensive for a long time, we’re now seeing better times. Prices have lowered and seem to be stable, so this season consumers will definitely see the benefit, as well as the buyers of produce from India. We expect that the total exported grape volumes will be good this year from. Hopefully, this will be the best season after seeing the good news in terms of logistics as well as the quality of the grapes. All in all, we’re very excited for this new season,” Chavda concludes.
