Pakistan has become the main supplier of potatoes to the Uzbek market

According to the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan imported 404 100 tonnes of potatoes worth $65.9 million from 16 countries in January-October 2022.

Official statistics recorded that potato imports increased by 14 700 tonnes compared to the corresponding period last year.

The main supplier countries are the following:

  • Pakistan – 258 200 tonnes;
  • Kazakhstan – 96 300 tonnes;
  • Kyrgyzstan – 16 800 tonnes;
  • Russia – 15 000 tonnes;
  • Netherlands – 6 300 tonnes;
  • Iran – 5 600 tonnes.

The report noted that 2.6 million tonnes of potatoes were grown in Uzbekistan in January-September 2022. Potato production increased by 6.6% compared to the corresponding period last year, writes Nuz.uz.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan previously reported that potatoes were planted on 243 000 ha for the 2022 harvest in all categories of farms in Uzbekistan, which is 55% or 86 000 ha more than last year.

Accordingly, the forecast crop volume in 2022 is 4.1 million tonnes, which is 26% or 850 000 tonnes more than in 2021.
