New warehouse in Rungis - More than 15,000 m²

France: Carrefour speeds up same-day delivery in Paris region with the STEF group

Carrefour and STEF have inaugurated a logistics platform in Rungis that will accelerate the growth of Carrefour’s home delivery offer in the Paris region and develop same-day delivery in the Paris region. Carrefour has entrusted its partner STEF with all the logistics operations (receiving, storing and preparing the orders).

With more than 15,000 m² and 44 shipping docks, the Rungis platform will allow the Carrefour group to strengthen its position on the home-delivery market in France. The “Carrefour delivered to your door” service is also available in more than 20,000 towns in France, which represents 74% of the French population.

The new logistics facility will be capable of handling up to 3,000 orders each day, thus accelerating Carrefour’s home delivery services in the Paris region to meet the growing demand from consumers. The platform already serves 2.2 million inhabitants of 91 municipalities in the Paris region.

The site is located less than 20km away from Paris, which will enable Carrefour to meet the new consumer expectations in terms of delivery times by offering them the same-day delivery option. The objective of the Carrefour group is to generalize same-day delivery of groceries in France.

“This warehouse, located south of Paris, will help us meet the very strong demand for our Carrefour home delivery service. At the same time, we will create the difference by generalizing same-day delivery, an increasingly important criterion for our clients,” explains Elodie Perthuisot, executive director e-commerce, data and digital transformation at Carrefour.

“We are proud of the trust Carrefour has placed in us to accompany their growth in e-commerce in the Paris region. The launch of this new site extends and reinforces the historic partnership between our two groups for the development of services adapted to the new consumption trends. It also illustrates our expertise in e-commerce logistics, a complex environment with no less than 4 temperatures. For this project to succeed, STEF has recruited 80 permanent employees and developed an integration program in order to deliver the best quality of service to Carrefour’s customers,” explains Bertrand Bompas, deputy CEO of STEF France.

Characteristics of the new platform
- Multi-temperature site (4 temperatures, from ambient to frozen, including fresh) with a capacity to offer 15,000 different products, 33% of which are own-brand products (to date).

- Preparation capacity of nearly 185,000 items per day.

- With this new platform, Carrefour’s ambition is to have an offer of fresh products that is more rich (especially for fruit and vegetables) and to quickly propose a complementary premium offer of meat, fish and parapharmaceutical products.
