Air Tanzania Company Limited ships 3,000 tons of cargo annually

According to ATCL’s Acting Manager (Cargo Department), Raymond Manyika, Air Tanzania Company Limited transports 3,000 tons of cargo annually, including exported and imported consignments.  He said on average ATCL transport 250 tons which are equivalent to 250 tons per month adding that most of the cargo comes from Mumbai, India, which consists of medicines.

"From China, we transport electronics equipment, car accessories and clothes and sometimes we took them from abroad to Tanzania. From here the consignments are distributed to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Burundi and South Sudan," he said.

He mentioned other cargo that is transported to China as seafood and avocado from Tanzania to Mumbai India. "There is a huge market for avocados in India; we transport huge consignments of the fruit as well as flowers from Kilimanjaro to Nairobi in Kenya and China," he said.

Speaking about the market competition, Manyika said there is tight competition between airline companies such as Emirates, Ethiopian, Qatar Airways and KLM.
