"The price of all products have increased because farmers haven't sown many products due to the increase in fertilizer prices. In recent weeks, avocado prices have increased by 25 to 30% in Piura and Lambayeque, as a result of the high cost of fertilizers."
“The price of all products has increased because farmers haven't sown many products because of the increase in fertilizer prices,” one retailer told La Republica.
In the case of Piura, avocado prices in the Modelo market, which initially stood at 2 soles, have increased by 1 sol and now stand at 3.00 soles. "We used to find avocados for up to 1 sol. Now we have to pay 6 or 7 soles to buy two small fruits,” a customer stated.
In Lambayeque, avocado prices, which previously cost 1 sol, range between 2.00 soles and 2.50. These products are brought from Cajabamba, which belongs to the Cajamarca region. The price of the Creole avocado went from 3 soles to 4 soles per unit.
Given this increase, avocado sales have decreased by 50%. We went from selling 30 avocados a day to fifteen, at most, the retailer stated.
