Werner Schörkhuber, PCS IT-Trading, on the 'TradeControl' ERP system

"Unfortunately, the potential of a well-functioning software system is still underestimated too often"

In these times of advancing digitalization, a modern, well-functioning, and ideally industry-specific ERP system is virtually indispensable. To meet the increasing demands of the fast-moving fruit and vegetable sector in the future, Viennese software developer PCS IT-Trading Ltd has developed the TradeControl ERP system.

At this year's producer congress ICOP in Weiz, Styria, Werner Schörkhuber, managing partner of the company, provided insights into the sophisticated software process, which is already being used successfully by several well-known fruit and vegetable companies, such as LGV, Unfried, and BioFink.

The software company PCS IT-Trading was founded in 1976. Nowadays, it is mainly dedicated to the development of industry-specific software systems. "In terms of ERP, data protection and security is unfortunately extremely important at the moment. Apart from this, it is noticeable that existing ERP systems are often not equipped to meet today's requirements. Up to 80 percent of ERP users confirm that they could increase the efficiency of everyday work processes if the software behind these processes were better," says Schörkhuber, pointing out the huge opportunities.

Werner Schörkhuber, during his presentation

The development of the Greenfield TradeControl industry software was based on three pillars: Data protection and security, user-friendliness, and mobile support (in the cloud). The results so far have been promising, Schörkhuber said. "In most cases, the system is structured as follows: About 60 percent of day-to-day work requirements can be handled with the standard functions. Industry-specific functions account for 30 percent, and the remaining 10 percent are mastered with the help of company-specific functions."

Bernd Mühlbacher, Sales Manager at the company

At the end of his presentation, Schörkhuber gave his audience some advice with regard to ERP systems and their practical implementation. "Unfortunately, the potential of a well-functioning software system is still underestimated too often. Do not be afraid to think outside the box and be open to the software market, innovations, and internal as well as external experts in this field. And remember that an ERP system usually only really pays for itself after 5 to 10 years."

According to Schörkhuber, ERP is particularly demanding: "Above all, it is important that both the user and his customers pull together and unite. Experience shows that this is an indispensable basis for longer-term success."
