Special type of vegetable box designed by Junagadh University of Agriculture

A foldable plastic box for transporting crops was researched by Junagadh Agricultural University in 2013. The design was submitted to the government of India for the registration of a patent. Made from polypropylene corrugated sheet, this transport food box features fully collapsible, perforated for better air circulation during transit, this box is made up of four tiers, each tier sized to store fruit or vegetables separately.

Since the fruits or vegetables arranged in this transport box such as chickpeas, tomatoes, etc. do not touch each other, there is no internal friction between them, and since there is no pressure or load on the fruits or vegetables arranged in different layers, the fruit or vegetables stored in it.

There is no loss or deterioration during long distance transportation. The basic qualities of the fruit or vegetable like aroma, taste, color, ripeness, firmness, etc. are retained. This transport box can be used many times and its use also reduces the transport cost. The foldable plastic transport box with a size of 39 cm X 32.5 cm X 24.5 cm weighs only 1.5 kg, its transport capacity is 10 kg. The use of transport boxes results in less loss of fruit and vegetable crops as compared to bagging method. These transport boxes are very useful for easy transportation by road, rail, sea and air.
