Morrisons' quarterly earnings halved amid UK consumer crunch
British supermarket group Morrisons reported a halving of its third-quarter core earnings as underlying sales fell 3.1% against the backdrop of a cost of living squeeze. The group, which has been owned by U.S. private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice for almost a year, said core earnings were 177mln pounds ($189mln) in the 13 weeks to July 31, down from 356mln pounds in the same period last year.

Eurospin the cheapest food retailer in Slovenia, study finds
Discounter Eurospin offers the cheapest basket of basic food products in Slovenia, a new pricing study has claimed, while Tuš is the most expensive. The price census, conducted in mid-September by local portal Naša Super Hrana, considered both the prices charged by the six largest retailers in Slovenia, as well as retailers from neighbouring countries, namely Croatia, Austria and Italy. The basket of listed foods includes a kilogram or litre of white wheat flour, white bread, pasta, milk, liquid yogurt, eggs, apples, potatoes, sunflower oil and white sugar, as well as 300 grams of cheese, 250 grams of butter and half a kilogram of beef and pork steaks and chicken fillet.
