Alexander Gellert, Fruchtgroßhandel Gellert, on the marketing of pre-cut herbs:

"Encouraging supply situation - but sales are slowing a bit"

The supply of domestic pre-cut herbs of all kinds is currently going at full speed. At the local wholesale market in Hanover, regionally cultivated parsley, coriander, basil and the like are marketed on a daily basis as well. "Parsley is establishing itself as a particularly consistent item, which we can offer into December, depending on the weather. As long as there is no frost, there are usually goods from Germany, and after we continue with products from Spain as well as Italy," says Alexander Gellert, owner of the wholesale company at the Hannover wholesale market.

The marketing situation for pre-cut herbs is rather mixed right now, Gellert continues. "Although there is continuous availability of goods across the range, sales are flagging here and there, which in turn is due to the relatively high prices."

Spring onions from northern Germany and the Palatinate
The wholesale market trader has been based at the trading site for about 15 years, carrying a wide range of fruits, vegetables and herbs. Gellert: "Compared to other varieties, coriander is in somewhat lower demand with us. What is in high demand, are locally produced spring onions. We source this product locally as much as possible, and depending on supply, we also stock goods from the Palatinate. Despite rising production and logistics costs, domestic spring onions are currently priced in the normal range."
