The online fruit market saw a consumption boom: watermelon sales increased by nearly 200%

The midsummer is approaching, and that is the peak season for watermelon consumption. According to the monitoring data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, since early-ripening watermelons entered the market in late March, sales have gradually increased, and the online fruit market has also seen a consumption boom.

According to the data of Meituan, since watermelons entered the market, the demand for watermelon among consumers across the country has gradually increased, and the sales of watermelon have grown rapidly. From May 23 to May 29, the sales of watermelons increased by nearly 200% compared with the first week of May. Among them, the overall sales of "Black Beauty" watermelons increased the fastest year-on-year, with a year-on-year increase of more than 50%.

It is expected that June will usher in a greater upsurge for melons. In order to meet consumers' summer watermelon needs, Meituan chose to officially open the "Melon Festival" on June 6. At that time, Meituan joins hands with more than a thousand high-quality merchants to bring high-quality watermelons from all over the country to the dining tables of people in urban and rural areas across thousands of kilometers in a "next-day delivery" way.

According to data from Meituan, since May, the sales volume of "Black Beauty" watermelon has exceeded 6,000 tons. The Kirin melon, which is well known to people across China, is still playing a stable role, and the order volume has increased by 75% year-on-year.

Among the watermelon categories sold this year, Guangxi Black Beauty, Kirin Melon 8424, Ice Cream Watermelon, Yunnan Sweet King Watermelon, and Diaolan Watermelon became the best-selling watermelon varieties. In particular, Guangxi Black Beauty performed well, and its sales surpassed last year's Yunnan Sweet King Watermelon, which became the top watermelon sales this year. During the Melon Festival, all watermelon categories have multiple discounts, allowing consumers to have more choices and more affordable prices.

As a world-famous watermelon producer, China's watermelon production accounts for about 70% of the world's total output, but its export volume is less than 1%. Judging from the proportion of online watermelon consumption, the proportion of watermelon in total fruit consumption has exceeded 10%. Customers from the first- and second-tier cities are still the main force of fruit consumption.
