China: Banana prices stopped rising and stabilized, and entered a buffer phase after the price peak

Recently, the banana market in various producing areas has changed greatly, especially in the early period. The price of bananas in some producing areas has risen rapidly. However, in the later period, due to high price increases in a short period of time, the market is under pressure to react and orders are down. It started to stop rising and stabilized, and some production areas saw a slight downward adjustment.

In terms of specific production areas, the price of bananas in Guangdong and Guangxi has been dropping relatively obviously, but fluctuates within the normal range; the price level in Yunnan production areas is not as good as in Guangxi in general, so the fluctuation range is relatively small. In terms of orders, although there are some fluctuations in each production area, the overall volume can still be maintained. At present, Guangxi is the main production area in China, and the active orders for several days have greatly reduced the overall inventory of the production area. Bananas from Yunnan production areas will enter the market in large quantities, but it will take some time, as the overall inventory of Guangdong production areas is not large.

From the perspective of imported bananas, Laos and Myanmar are still closed for imports, avoiding any impact on domestic production areas. On the whole, the price of bananas dropped by 6 RMB/kg, entering a buffer period, and the subsequent trends still need to be determined according to the climate and temperature of the production area, the situation at the ports, how the epidemic influences the market and the speed of shipments.
