Grape growers from Duhok say this year’s harvest has been excellent, but they are facing problems marketing their fruit. And they are not alone; many Kurdistan Region farmers are currently having to compete with cheaper imports or sell their produce across borders.
The Kurdistan Regional Government said it is working to increase exports. “Our plan is to find markets for our products including grapes and honey. We are in the process of establishing private companies for the exportation of such products,” said Karim Sulaiman, deputy minister of Agriculture and Water Resources.
