WEBER Verpackungen presents natural packaging for lettuces

"Bloom guard is the ideal packaging to protect and market lettuce"

WEBER Verpackungen is a traditional German manufacturer of innovative packaging solutions for the horticultural industry. At its site in Wickede, in the middle of NRW, WEBER produces flexible packaging made of paper and material composites for flowers, plants, herbs and vegetables.

Through its bloom guard product, the company offers natural packaging made from renewable raw materials for lettuce. The bag is made entirely from recycled, FSC-certified paper and is 100% recyclable in turn, making it a sustainable alternative to the usual plastic packaging.

Waterproof packaging
bloom guard is ideal for packing lettuce, as it is waterproof and the paper does not draw moisture from the lettuce. This allows the paper to breathe and ensures the salad retains its freshness even at the POS. At the same time, the packaging meets the currently increasing hygienic requirements.

Like all WEBER products, the bloom guard is manufactured entirely according to individual customer requirements: whether for cut or root lettuce, made of 100% paper or a transparent hybrid solution (paper with glassine or film), completely closed or with a bottom opening. For optimal marketing of lettuce, individual customer printing with up to 10 colors is also possible, of course these are water-based. Without printing, the bloom guard is also available as stock item.

Sustainable packaging alternative
"The packaging issue runs right through the international fresh produce industry. Everywhere, people are trying to do without plastic as much as possible and find a sustainable solution," says Thomas Leithe, packaging expert at WEBER. "In parallel, hygiene and product safety are also of high importance."

Also, the bloom guard is very well suited for machine processing. Large investments in new machines or packaging lines are not required.
