Germany increased tomato imports from Morocco by 246.1%

According to data from Hortoinfo based on the Euroestacom statistical service (Icex-Eurostat) data for the January-November period of the last five years, Germany has decreased its tomato purchases from Spain by 14.52% while increasing imports from Morocco by 246.1%.

In that period, German tomato imports from the Netherlands fell by 10.43%, from France by 7.46%, from Italy by 29.75%, and from Turkey by 12.99%.

Germany imported 622.82 million kilos of tomatoes between January and November 2020, i.e. 9.21% less than five years ago. Tomato imports amounted to 1,137.13 million euro, with an average price of 1,826 € / kg.

During this period, the Netherlands was Germany's largest tomato supplier with 339.85 million kilos worth 630.93 million euro and an average price of € 1,856 / kg.

It was followed by Spain with 144.87 million kilos worth 279.65 million euro, and an average price of € 1.93 / kg.

Belgium ranked third with 50.92 million kilos worth 73.03 million euro and an average price of € 1,434 / kg.

France ranked fourth with 47.6 million kilos worth 101.04 million euro and an average price of € 2.12 / kg, the highest among the five main suppliers.

Finally, Italy ranked fifth with 19.34 million kilos worth 33.93 million euro and an average price of € 1,754 / kg.
